A company learns most about its customers' wishes by asking open-ended questions. But when it's a chain store, for example, and it has to ask half a million people in a detailed questionnaire questions like "What should we do to make your next purchase with us more enjoyable?" or "Is there anything you would change in our store?", they would have to read millions of responses. That is, hire a dedicated team of people to monitor and evaluate the feedback for such a task. And that means a lot of extra costs.

And they made a computer understand the meaning of human language and work with it. So far, both are in the form of start-ups - fledgling companies founded by a bunch of students with a good idea and now trying to break into the market.
